Great Food, Good Vibe
When you want some good, good, good comfort food, head on out to Home restaurant. This casual, yet hip bistro in the Castro puts a fresh, gourmet twist on some American classics.
Home whips up mouth-watering delights for dinner and weekend brunch. Dinner entrées include organic meats such as Niman Ranch pot roast, flank steak, pork chop, or meatloaf served with potato puree (translation: yummy, creamy, mashed potatoes); fresh seafood like Alaskan salmon or Bluenose bass cooked to perfection; and fresh, seasonal pasta dishes. Plus, there are amazing daily specials. Our favorites: the chicken pot pie in a delectable, buttery, perfectly flakey pie crust; "corn flake fried chicken, potato puree, coleslaw, gravy"; and their nod to the classic turkey dinner, "turkey, sage stuffing, potato puree, gravy, cranberry sauce". Try to save room for their fabulous desserts. Our favorites: banana bread pudding and molten chocolate cake.
While Home is primarily an adult hangout, kids are welcome, too. Strollers and car seats can fit near some tables and they stock a few high chairs and booster seats, too. While there is no children's menu, you'll find plenty of things to interest your kids, such as the boneless fried chicken, Niman Ranch hamburger, french fries, mini-corn dogs with honey mustard, sloppy joe dip and corn chips, corn bread and honey butter, and last but certainly not least, Home's famous, stupendous, macaroni and cheese. The good veggies here might tempt your kids, too, such as brown sugar carrots or tender broccoli in a delicious, homemade cheddar sauce.
Home is open for dinner every night from 5 p.m. - midnight and for weekend brunch, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. As a festive, grown-up hangout, the restaurant gets quite crowded and loud in the evenings, so for quieter family time, consider dining early. Street parking in this neighborhood is challenging no matter what time you go, but valet parking is available. Buses and taxis are easy to catch here, too.
Enjoy.
