Nice Neighborhood Bookstore
Kids love books and Books Inc. loves kids.
Locally owned and operated, this independent book store in Pacific Height's Laurel Village Shopping Center has an extensive children's book section (for infants through teens) and even sells a few toys, including Melissa and Doug puzzles, stuffed animals, and finger puppets. The aisles are wide enough for comfortable shopping (with kids on foot, in stroller, or sling). A fair number of books rest on low shelves and wall displays at the perfect height for young browsers. There's also nice low bench near the baby-toddler books, just the right size for hanging with your kids and reading a book or two.
If you want book selection advice, the courteous and knowledgeable staff will help you locate good choices. You can also place orders if they don't have what you want in stock. Most orders arrive within a few days -- and they're very good about calling you for pick-up.
In addition to housing a wonderful selection of reading materials, Books Inc. hosts special events, such as school fundraisers. The Book Fair is one such community-building fundraiser where book fair participants -- teachers, parents, etc. -- snack, socialize and shop. For more info on fundraisers, call or visit the store.
Books Inc. has 11 locations in California, including three more storefronts in San Francisco. The Laurel Village store is open seven days a week, 9 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. Free parking is available in the Laurel Village lot in back, with additional metered parking out front on California Street. Enjoy!
